How travel allowances are calculated

The allowance for using your own car on a business trip has two parts:

allowance = km × basic rate + km × consumption / 100 × fuel price

  • The basic rate covers wear and tear on the vehicle; for 2026 it is 5.90 Kč/km for passenger cars (1.60 Kč/km for single-track vehicles).
  • The fuel allowance is based on the combined consumption in the registration document and the fuel price. You prove the price with a receipt, or use the statutory average price, which you'll find in the calculator under the buttons.

Statutory rates for 2026

Average fuel prices under Decree No. 573/2025 Coll. (diesel increased from 1 June 2026 by amendment No. 78/2026 Coll.):

Fuel Price
Petrol 95 octane 34.70 Kč/l
Petrol 98 octane 39.00 Kč/l
Diesel 44.50 Kč/l
Electricity 7.20 Kč/kWh

How it works for the self-employed

The statutory rates apply to employees; a freelancer has no employer and sets the price of a trip to a client by agreement. Even so, the statutory rate is a useful minimum: it covers the real costs of the car and fuel. It's worth adding the value of the time spent behind the wheel. Two hours of driving are two hours you're not working. What rate you put on your time is up to you; what matters is not to forget it in your calculation.

What the calculator doesn't calculate

Meal allowances (per diems) are not based on kilometres but on the length of the business trip in hours, and have their own bands set by decree; for 2026 in the business sphere at least 155 Kč (5–12 hours), 236 Kč (12–18 hours) and 370 Kč (over 18 hours). Parking, motorway tolls and other expenses are claimed separately based on actual costs.
