Why non-breaking spaces
A non-breaking space ( ) holds two words together so the line never breaks between them. Without it, lines end with orphaned prepositions and units get separated from their numbers ("20 / kg"). Czech typography therefore requires a hard space after single-letter prepositions and conjunctions and anywhere a break would separate a number from its unit or split parts of a date.
For copywriters and proofreaders it's the difference between typesetting that looks professional and text that falls apart on a narrower screen. Inserting the entities by hand is tedious and it's easy to miss one. That's exactly the mechanical work you can leave to the generator.
What the generator binds
- Short prepositions and conjunctions: k, s, v, z, a, i, o, u and two-letter ones (do, na, po, za, ze…) and the abbreviations tj., tzv., aj.
- Titles before names: Ing. Novák, MUDr. Malá.
- Units after numbers: 20 kg, 15 cm, 5 %, 1 500 Kč.
- Dates and ordinal numbers: 1. 1. 2026, 27 April, 3rd place.
- Section signs and digit groups: § 13, phone 777 123 456.
- Hard hyphen: e-mail and Wi-Fi won't break after the hyphen.
The same rules every text on this website goes through. The generator uses the same formatter.
How to use the generator
- Paste your text into the Text before processing field, even a whole article; both fields grow with the length of the text.
- The result appears immediately, no button: the generator works as you type and the counter reports how many hard characters it added.
- Clicking into the Text after processing field selects the whole output; the Copy button puts it straight into your clipboard.
What to do with the result
The output contains visible entities, so you can paste it directly into HTML, a template or a CMS. The tool is idempotent: you can run text that already contains entities through it again; nothing gets doubled, the rules are simply applied to anything new.
You can also paste whole HTML: tags, attributes (such as href) and the contents of <code> and <pre> blocks stay untouched, only the text between them gets the hard spaces.
