The first Popeyes branch opened in Prague today. I also gave my comments to the news site Aktuálně.cz
A comparison with its competitor KFC shows that consistency in quality and portion size is an ever bigger challenge for KFC. In the past, KFC built its reputation on its fried chicken, which became an iconic dish and a synonym for tasty food on the go. However, based on my personal experience and observations, KFC's quality has been gradually declining. Several customers even complain about overly spicy or dried-out chicken strips, which tends to be especially noticeable towards the end of a shift, when the quality of the food on offer at KFC drops. The most significant problem at KFC is often the size of the portions.

The view of Karolína from ApetitOnline.cz
I reached out to Karolína Waberová of ApetitOnline.cz, because she was invited to the unofficial opening day for the media and was among the first to taste Popeyes' food. Her colleague Kateřina Kočičková wrote a full article here: A new fast food: the Popeyes chain opens. From today you can taste Louisiana chicken in the Czech Republic
"As for the portions at Popeyes, I really do think they're a little bigger. On the other hand, that's just my opinion. The bun is definitely denser for me, buttery; overall you get the impression that one burger/sandwich fills you up more."
Day 3 and still a long queue
Day 4, still a 1.5-hour queue
Popeyes' competitor is KFC
Now Popeyes enters the game as a direct competitor to KFC, precisely because it also offers fried chicken as its flagship dish. Judging by the reviews and ratings of Czech food bloggers, Popeyes seems to aim to satisfy local tastes with bigger portions and new recipes, a welcome trend on the Czech scene. This aspect, together with food quality, could be a strategic advantage for Popeyes.
I believe that if Popeyes holds its current course and focuses on consistency and quality, it can grow dynamically in the Czech Republic in the coming years and win a significant market share. My take is that Popeyes has everything it needs to become the new leader in the fast-food sector, which could spark healthy competition that ultimately benefits us, the customers, not only in terms of the variety and quality of the offer, but also in the overall customer experience (B2C).
